Hey guys ^^ found this interesting program called design doll. Its pretty cool where you can change the models size and shape and make them do any kind of posing. I'm using the free version, and its a bit of a pain cause after I'm done I can't save the models. Which means if I wanna do anymore cool looking poses with Damion (the models are always female in the beginning) I would have to remake him all over again. If I get the pro licence its 79 dollars and I don't really want to spend that much money, at least for a long while.
And what you can do with these models is create references to draw from, cause their are times where I need a reference and sometimes I'm pulling at my hair trying to find the perfect reference to go off of. This will make it loads easier, especially since I can make the female model exactly Sophie's height, and I can make Damion male model match his height.
So after making the reference I send the photo to my digital art program, make it a layer and draw on top of it, then remove it after the picture is all done on top.
Its a bit tricky making the models but its so worth it. ^^ pretty cool huh~
Maybe when I'm open for commissions I can make models for other artist looking for specific references.

the result i came up as, was to print the image on my screen in all the directions i wanted for better reference later, savig them separately in another format
I did that too but put them all together in one submission for DA
:3 yeah, is just sad that if not bought you have to re-do everything from scratch XD but oh well
same -,- but when you're a starving artist, what can you do? I'm more interested in saving my money and getting an Ipad pro and do digital art on the touch screen with Procreate. Now that looks like it would come in far more handy with my artwork.
i used to study Graphic Design, but it didn't go that well, i found out it was more like a hobby to destress for me, but not really my call, so i'm a physical therapist and when i can i draw and sketch.
and oh well, i get to sell some original art at my clinic xD not much, but something
I got my main job and I got the extra art jobs that help me rake in extra money. Face painting, art commission, and writing my book series has helped me put back a lot of savings.
how do you manage your time? i mean i almost can see myself drowning in work xD
Having my main job as a Sub, I have a very flexible schedule and also have the summer off, and I'm also very fast at doing art commissions. I can usually have a detailed painting that 9 by 12 done over the weekend. Being a face painter I'm fast at that as well and get great tips cause I'm so good with the kids and can paint just about anything, so the kids love to challenge me lol. Also teach art lessons at a Micheals store, so I do a little bit of everything that I love.

I dunno if you know this but you can save it and use it later ^-^ (just not in designdoll unfortunately) All you have to do is File >Export Flat Image/Export 3D Model > save it in whichever file type'll work better for you
Not sure if this'll be much help though ^-^'
hey guys those who use the free version... before you close the program did you think to take as many screenshots of it from as many angles and poses as you can so your hard work isn't in vein?
I've downloaded the program this morning and started working on the pose reference for a drawing I want to do. After I've almost finished I had the great idea to open a new file, thinking that it was going to open a new window. NO, he closed the one that I've worked for about 2 hours (5 MODELS and a seat) and open the new one. The fact is that I don't even know if it saved the last changes because with the free version you can't open saved files! And obviously I can't spend 79 dollars on a program just to open saved files I'm really frustrated right now
(by the way, could I ask you how to change the height?)
X'D The struggle is real! I haven't done these for a long while because of the sucky part of not being able to save and open up the models you worked so hard to make. As for the height question:
It is a bit difficult but you go to the mirror button 'The magnify glass with the plus sign in the middle. Then, since you want a taller model, you enlarge every bit of the body up. You can control the length, width and size of each part. Then after you can go to the options on how you want your models face, hands, body, legs to look. Hope that helps ^^
how did you get two modules at once? please tell me!
dunno' if you figured it out but... go to item>add object>model
i did figure it out quite a while ago xD
but thanks so much for caring ^o^
I forgot! This was a long time ago, and I didn't want to spend money on the full version so I soon stopped experimenting with it since I couldn't save any of my models without the full version.
Don't know if you figured out how to do it, but:
Look in the top-bar for 'Items' > Add Object > Model > Name Model > Profit
Should work. I use the free version and it works for me. Hope that helps~ ;;
Well, for me, I install it, and got this:
imgur.com/a/CRRgU
And nobody knows how to fix it either, which sucks.
Hey, did you figure out how to install it? I'm getting a different error than yours and I can't find a fix
hm thats weird, I have no clue. I got this program almost 2 years ago.
Nice, theres a lot of stuff in the free trial mode too. Im broke right now so thats definetly something I appreciate!
yep ^^ its just too bad you can't save your doll model after you've edited it to the shape you want. Once you're done and close it, your design won't save.
if you look in the comments below, the answer should be in one of them. ^^ if you still can't find it then, ask me again. It just takes a whole paragraph explaining how it works haha
I got this! And love this so much. Still pain of expensive that program.
I use this program, but i cant create a 'voluptuose' girl U - u... Any help?
If you read some of my other replies to this piece it tells you how to manipulate the whole shape of your model.
>prt sc
>paste to *insert program here*
>save
It's a pain to do, but I ain't got $80 to spend on this,
its the part thats a magnify glass with a plus inside of it. it lets you size each of the dolls parts so you could make them tall, wide, thin, or tiny. or you can go crazy and make it all disfigured.
I was looking to how to do this for a while, thanks That'll help a lot with poses!
Uh, its been a while since I did this. But you should be able to pull up another model in the options. Then you adjust each section at a time and either shrink or enlarge them to change your models figure . :/ sorry I can't be more helpful, I should try and get back into these.
Now I remember where you can do the adjusting on your model. Go to the mirror button 'The Magnify glass with the plus sign in the middle.'
How do you create a male model with this program? I've been trying to do that for ages. I already know how to draw females, it's males I really struggle with. I've been trying to change the doll's proportion for a long time but had a hard time figuring out how to make the arms, legs, hips, etc thicker/thinner; dragging the arrows had just made them detached.
t is a bit difficult but you go to the mirror button 'The magnify glass with the plus sign in the middle. Then, you can slowly shrink or enlarge each of the parts of the body one at a time
I was just wondering if that program knows what centimeters are?
Since I know problem of finding perfect reference.
And since I have no idea how inchs work, I would just end up to throw
somethign against wall
dunno 0,0 haven't tried that yet. You cant type in measurements, you can only slowly shrink or enlarge each of the parts of the body one at a time. Then you add stuff like muscles, head shapes, hand poses, posing the doll the way you want it, etc.
Improve your drawing skills by turning to this 3D pose simulator that enables you to study human form in a quick, convenient way

If you make a living out of art or you're just passionate about drawing, you might understand the importance of having a reliable source for references, both in the early stages of your artist days and later on, when you're already pretty skilled.
Although many artists advocate against using digital resources, claiming that 'traditional' is better, nowadays there are some applications that might change their minds. DesignDoll is one of them.
Study human form
Its name is pretty much suggestive; the program is a simulator for those wooden manikins some artists use for studying poses. You are presented with a doll that you can move however you like in order to study the shape of its body.
Moving the doll around is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Each joint has separate controls and if you want to control a specific segment of the doll you have to place your clicks in an accurate manner. If the segment doesn't move as you'd like, don't despair, just select another nearby segment and try again.
Separate segment movement
If you want to control only a certain segment of the doll's body, you can do so by using the diagram on the right part of the screen, which depicts a crudely shaped head, two gloves, a t-shirt, a pair of short pants and some shoes. Each of these icons represents a body part, which should be pretty clear.
You can also toggle a bunch of options in the same part of the screen if you want your model to be more realistic. For instance, you can enable a shoulder link, which automatically adjusts the shoulders whenever you move the arms and hands or you can toggle the 'Auto Foot Correction' feature, which adjusts the feet according to the position of the legs and the ground.
Handy 3D pose study tool for artists
All in all, if you're in need of a model to study human form and poses on, you might be in luck, since DesignDoll can do all of that, minus the costs needed to pay such a model. You can move it however you want, use different skins on it and even save it on your PC for future projects.
