How To Open Up World Quests Bfa
Battle for Azeroth has been out for little more than a full week now, and many players are either just hitting Level 120 or have already put in the grind to get there. Chances are, you’re one of them.
But one major question that keeps popping up as players reach the level cap is, 'what do I do when I hit Level 120?'. On the surface, it would seem pretty simple that your next steps would be gearing up to raid. However, BfA doesn’t exactly make it clear how to go about doing that, and there are more options for future raiders and dungeoneers than ever before when it comes to endgame content.
This guide helps demystify some of that by going over some of the best techniques for getting prepared for raiding by going over:
You will get a new quest, A mission of Unity. This requires you to earn friendly reputation with the 3 factions tied to the 3 zones in alliance for alliance area and 3 in horde for the horde area. Once completed, you unlock World Quests. World Quest Emissaries can reward. Gold; Artifact Power; Weapons; Gear.
- War Campaigns
- Dungeons
- Reputations
- World Quests
- War Mode
- Island Expeditions
Let's get started with one of the best ways to maximize your early efforts after hitting Level 120.
War Campaign
Dungeons are the first go-to for most players, but there's a better, more optimal first choice. If you haven’t already started your BfA War Campaign quests, start themnow. Actually, they should be the first thing that you do.
Your War Campaign unlocks so many of the other things that you need for BfA’s endgame content, including a new set of world quests, that it should be your number one priority.
The War Campaign brings the faction war theme of BfA to the forefront and allows you to work with prominent members of your faction to wage war. Eventually, you venture onto the other factions continent and establish footholds in each zone. It’s an interesting quest line, and it opens up three new zones to explore.
Dungeons
They are an obvious choice, of course, but dungeons award some of the best gear early on in an expansion. They also give you a chance to practice for your future raiding or Mythic+ goals.
Let's take a look at what each type of dungeon provides in terms of gear.
Normal Dungeons
As soon as you hit Level 120, you’ll have all of the normal difficulty dungeons unlocked and ready to queue for. These dungeons award Item Level 310 gear, and you can run them as many times as you like. Normal dungeons are probably your best bet for early gearing.
There is a serious drawback to running normal dungeons right now, though. At this stage in the expansion, queue times for DPS classes are extremely high. While you’re queued for normal dungeons, you should probably explore one of the other BfA options, like your War Campaign or World Quests.
Heroic Dungeons
As soon as your character reaches Item Level 305, you’ll be able to start queuing for heroic-difficulty dungeons. These are a major step up from normal for a number of reasons.
First, everyone in the dungeon will have better gear, so they tend to run more smoothly. Next, those insane queue times are considerably shorter, down as low as 10 minutes. Finally, the gear that comes from heroic dungeons is Item Level 325, but it has a chance to titanforge even higher. It’s not too uncommon to see Item Level 340 pieces drop.
As soon as you’re eligible, heroic dungeons should be your main option for gearing at this stage in the game. World quests are still good, but heroics will generally award better gear.
Mythic Dungeons
You can technically queue for mythic dungeons at any point because you need to form your own groups and physically go to the dungeon in the world. That said, you should probably have a decent amount of heroic level gear before trying.
Once you feel confident and are in at least the Item Level 320 range, you should start looking for mythic dungeon groups. The best ways to team up for these dungeons are:
- Guilds
- Group Finder
Guilds are basic for WoW at this point, and you're probably already part of one. If not, there are plenty of groups forming in the group finder for mythic dungeons all the time, and this is the perfect time to get in on the ground floor of what will evolve into the Mythic+ progression.
Mythic dungeons award Item Level 340 gear.
Reputations
Reputations are a big deal in Battle for Azeroth. The most immediate thing you need to know is that reputations will unlock world quests. Once you have a “friendly” reputation with each of the leveling factions from your faction’s continent, they’ll become available.
Next, reputations unlock some great early gear. With one reputation at honored, you’ll be able to purchase an Item Level 320 cloak from that faction’s emissary vendor. As you progress and increase those reputations to revered, you’ll have access to Item Level 335 gear.
The Champions of Azeroth faction headed by Magni Bronzebeard, the same diamond dwarf that gave you your necklace, offers an Item Level 355 piece on reaching exalted. As you progress with their reputation, Magni increases the item level of your Heart of Azeroth by 15 item levels with each reputation level you reach, up until exalted.
Reputations are also going to be key in unlocking flying later on in the expansion, so there’s no reason to delay in leveling them up.
World Quests
World quests are going to be one of your first real sources of gear. As soon as you unlock them, you’re bound to find a few that offer upgrades. Also, keep a look out for emissary quests at the bottom of your map. Many of them award better gear than completing a single world quest does.
World quest rewards scale with your item level. They range from 295 to 330. Because world quests scale with your gear, they’re usually not a great way to get all of your gear, but they offer a great way to fill in trouble pieces that you can’t seem to get any other way.
Just like in Legion, world quests and the corresponding emissary quests are an excellent source of reputation. Even when you’ve geared beyond the rewards of world quests, its worthwhile to keep doing them for the rep.
Warmode
Warmode is one of the real stand-out features of Battle for Azeroth, even if it is a somewhat controversial one. Warmode tries to revolutionize world PvP like the game has never seen. By switching on Warmode, you enter a new version of your server with only other people looking to fight out in the world. The result is a more volatile world where fights can break out at any time, and groups from to go fight the opposing faction.
Warmode doesn’t currently award gear, but it will award Conquest Points to purchase gear when the PvP season begins on September 4. Until then, Warmode is just fun.
Groups are constantly forming in the group finder to go battle the enemy faction. If you’re more of a lone wolf, you can still stalk around the world looking for enemy players. You’re bound to find some. World quests with Warmode on also spark some seriously interesting interactions, especially ones for neutral factions like the Champions of Azeroth.
Island Expeditions
Island expeditions were sort of a wildcard when BfA first launched. No one was quite sure how they would play out in practice. Early impressions are in, and the response is overwhelmingly positive. Island expeditions are fun. They’re something unlike WoW has ever done, but they feel like a very natural evolution of the game.
Island expeditions pit you an two other players against more advanced A.I. in a race to collect Azerite on a randomly-generated uncharted island loaded with enemy creatures and more than a few powerful rare ones. If you’re looking to amp up that experience, you can choose to face off with actual players in a PvP version of the Azerite race.
These are a genuinely challenging and dynamic way to play. No two are alike, and the A.I. actually does give you some real opposition. Island expeditions are like dungeons, available in normal, heroic, and mythic difficulties. That means you can press into higher difficulties for more of a challenge. Of course, the PvP version pushes everything to the max.
For collecting artifact power to level up your Heart of Azeroth necklace, island expeditions are unbeatable. There’s a weekly Azerite goal that you need to meet through the expeditions, and when you do, you’ll be awarded 2500 artifact power. There’s a small chance that you’ll get weapons from completing expeditions too, but they’re not a reliable source of gear.
---
Hopefully, you have a good idea how you want to begin your endgame experience in Battle for Azeroth. A whole new set of content will drop on September 4 when the Uldir raid opens up and the PvP season begins. That also marks the beginning of Mythic+ dungeons in BfA. Even after that happens, many of these tips and strategies for gearing up will still be the best sources of early gear for your new 120 characters.

General InformationWelcome to the Level 120 Battle Guide, which is intended to help you beginyour Battle for Azeroth experience at maximum level that will empower yourcharacter's development into Kul Tiras and Zandalar!
1. Introduction
NOTE: It is VERY importantto not vendor any equipment you pick up. You will be deconstructing all of yourgear for resources that will help you in the Warfronts to be fought!Deconstructing, or scrapping, your gear will be done using theScrap-o-Matic 1000 if you are Alliance and the Shred-Master Mk1 ifyou are Horde. This works identical to how the Obliterum Forge workedin Legion. The scrapping feature can be used on all Battle for Azerothequipment found, not just craftable equipment, so save everything you acquirefor the scrapper!
2. A Whole Wide World — World Quests
Your first mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to begin yourconquest over all of the World Quests available to you. Reputation is a majordriver early in the expansion as many valuable rewards, profession patterns, and quests are only available with progressed reputations, particularly the 7th Legion for Alliance and The Honorbound for the Horde. AtFriendly reputation, which you should be at if youcompleted the zone quests, the reputation quartermasters will offer a contractitem that gives a quest that rewards reputation. Every day, you should completethe daily available emissary requirements to gain large amounts ofreputation.
Note: you should acquire the Contract (Contract: Champions of Azeroth),which other players with the Inscription profession can create, that provides abuff granting 10 Champions ofAzeroth reputation for each World Quest completed. This buff is permanentso long as you do not replace it with another contract for another faction. Thebonus effect persists through death. This is very important to your character'sprogression as gains in this reputation increase the item level of yourHeart of Azeroth by 15 levels for reaching
3. Daily Deeds — Daily Reset Objectives
Each day, an emissary quest will be available that will require you tocomplete World Quests in order to obtain a treasure box with loot and a largeamount of reputation. You can have up to three of these emissaries active atany time before you miss out on one, so try to be sure to do these each day orat least once every three days. It is incredibly important that players ensurethey always prioritize the Champions of Azeroth emissary,as the reputation is directly linked to your power level, via theHeart of Azeroth. That said, all of the emissaries are incrediblyimportant to do as they reward 1,500 reputation points for the factionrepresented in the emissary quests. This 1,500 reputation is by far the mosttime efficient method of grinding reputation as long as the emissary quests areup.
After you complete your emissary caches, start prioritizing World Quests thatgive you the largest power gain if you cannot do all of the World Quests. Doingall of the World Quests will be the fastest way to level your reputation withall of the factions. Doing World Quests in Kul Tiras as Horde and Zandalar asAlliance will reward the very important 7th Legion and Honorbound reputations, which unlock new content as your reputation levels increase. This is importantfor unlocking an extra Mythic level dungeon for each faction, too! In summaryfor World Quests, do them all.
If you cannot do all World Quests, prioritize as follows:
- World Quests that give gear upgrades first;
- World Quests for emissary cache completion;
- and everything else after.
Remember that revered reputation for each faction allows forpurchase of a 335 piece of gear while exalted allows for the purchase of a pieceof 350 gear!
Each day, you should progress your mission table champions by completingmissions. This is a lucrative way to farm bonus reputation tokens and othertypes of loot. Each of the previous expansion's mission tables have beenlucrative ways to farm gold, as well. By continuing to progress your missiontable, you open up the potential to earn high amounts of gold later in theexpansion. Leveling alts to progress on his or her mission table is not a baddecision when all of your other daily and weekly objectives are completed onyour main character. Once you become Honored with your faction's war effortfaction, you can purchase Scouting Reports. Scouting Reports unlock specialmissions at your mission table that can be completed to unlock more flight pathsand outposts in Kul Tiras for the Horde and Zandalar for the Alliance. This willlower travel times and provide closer proximity flight points to World Queststhat will speed up your daily adventures! More Scouting Reports are availableat Revered, so keep pushing your reputation and keep your champions goingstrong!
4. Weekly Worklist — Weekly Reset Objectives
Most of your activities to do are in the weekly reset objective category.
- You will want to do the highest Mythic+ keystoneyou can do. Aspire to do a +10 every week for maximum loot in your weeklycache.
- Do Expedition Quests. This will reward 2,500 Azerite power foryour Heart of Azeroth and progress your character's ability to equipmore traits of the Azerite gear. This will also grant you 1,500 reputation forthe 7th Legion andThe Honorbound reputations which areimportant to unlock quests for your War Campaign efforts! More IslandExpedition information can be found in our Island Expedition guide found here:Island Expeditions Guide.
- Kill the weekly world boss. World bosses will become available on fourthweek of the expansion while your faction controls the Warfront territory. Therewill also be a world boss that drops 355 item level gear somewhere in Zandalar orKul Tiras.
- Clear as much of the Battle of Dazar'alor raid content as you are capable!
- Clear as much of the Crucible of Storms raid content as you are capable!
- Complete all of the WANTED! quests in Kul Tiras for Horde and Zandalar forAlliance. These quests reward 250 reputation for the 7th Legion and Honorboundand are very good for boosting reputation levels. There are WANTED! quests atthe location where you land when you use your faction ship to travel to theopposite faction's island.

4.2. Azerite Gear & Titan Residuum
Because Azerite gear no longer drops from the weekly M+ cache, acquiring Azeritegear will be different with a new acquisition method. Instead of acquiringthe gear directly from your weekly chest, your weekly chest will have a newcurrency inside called Titan Residuum that can be exchanged for Azeritegear tokens. The acquisition rate of this currency can be done by scrapping anyAzerite gear acquired in Patch 8.1 no matter if the gear comes from Emissary caches,World Quests, Warfronts, or anywhere else - when scrapped, they will award theTitan Residuum currency. This currency can be exchanged for various things. The15, 50, 165, and 675 Titan Residuum items are randomly generated Azerite gearcreated by the token, while the 3,250 Titan Residuum pieces are the exact, specificpiece you might be looking for.
- Item Level 355 Helm, Shoulder, or Chest token — 15 Titan Residuum
- Item Level 370 Helm, Shoulder, or Chest token — 50 Titan Residuum
- Item Level 385 Helm, Shoulder, or Chest token — 165 Titan Residuum
With the Battle of Dazar'alor, this vendor has beenupgraded to the following item levels with Titan Residuum costs:
- Item Level 400 Helm, Shoulder, or Chest token — 675 TitanResiduum
- Item Level 415 Helm, Shoulder, or Chest token — 1,725 TitanResiduum

- Item Level 385 — 35 Titan Residuum
- Item Level 400 — 115 Titan Residuum
- Item Level 415 — 365 Titan Residuum
The vendor for this is Thaumaturge Vashreen who can be found besidethe reforge vendor in your capital city.
You should always try to complete the highest Mythic+ dungeon you can eachweek. There is also a bonus if you clear Mythic +11 or higher in that eachlevel above 10 grants a 40% chance of acquiring an additional piece of loot. Therefore, a Mythic +11 has a 40% chance of an additional piece of gear, aMythic +12 has an 80% chance of an additional piece of gear, and a Mythic +13has a guaranteed chance of awarding an extra piece of gear with a 20% chance ofgiving yet another piece of gear.
5. Warfronts & Incursions
Warfront activity will be doubled in Patch 8.1 with the addition of theBattle for Darkshore Warfront. Warfront cycles are not static, so they cyclebetween contribution phase and patrol phases on an irregular schedule that isusually between six and ten days. Completing both of the available warfrontquests while they are up is a great way to earn item level 370 gear andcomplete your Warfront transmogrification sets! Completing two sets ofcontributions will be a great boost to your AP earning potential while they areup. More Warfront information can be found in our Warfront guide found here: Warfront Guide.
Incursions are new in Patch 8.1 and are structured very similar to what theLegion invasions were in the Legion expansion. These are clustered World Queststhat are available once you unlock World Quests on an account-wide basis. Thismeans that they can also be accessed by characters less than Level 120 whichprovides a new and relatively rewarding alternative leveling opportunity.Incursions award an item level 370 weapon or Azerite armor piece uponcompleting four incursion World Quests and the final mini-scenario to completethe incursion experience, much like the process was in Legion. Be sure to dothese every time they are available!
Patch 8.1 also added some alternate character quality of life improvementitems called the 7th Legion Scouting Map and theHonorbound Scouting Map which can be purchased by any character who hascompleted the Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, Part One achievement. Theseitems will unlock all of the flight paths that your account has previouslyunlocked on other characters which will greatly speed up travel time for freshLevel 120 alternate characters!
